Both lenses are ideal for the landscapes cityscapes and architectures photography
** 38mm equiv. to 21mm 40mm equiv. to 22mm on the 135 cameras format

From my personal experience uses

The sharpness on the 38mm and 40mm lens from f4 f4.5 - f22 quite similar
The both lenses are very low distortion
The lenses cost, the 903swc with 38mm F4 CF complete set is approximately $4,200, the 40mm F4 CF is for $1,500
The color contrast 38mm slightly higher and better
The lens's vignetting on the edge, the 38mm slightly better than the 40mm
The shadow details on the 40mm slightly better

*** If you are owned the 500 or V camera bodies the 40mm is recommended for your investment
Cause it’s most useful to extending your lenses line up for your creative and works

*** If you are the serious landscapes or cityscapes photography or travelers
The super wide camera [SWC], swc/m 903swc, 905swc are recommended
