John Garvin on Steve Dahl Show

Описание: This is an audio of when my father John Garvin and his friends went to San Diego in 1984 to see the Cubs hopefully clinch their first trip to the World Series in 39 years. In 1984, it was only one best of 5 series that each team had to win in the playoffs to go to the World Series. The Cubs were up 2 -0 in the series at the time of this recording. My dad and his friends were at the Hotel bar where Steve Dahl was doing a live broadcast. At the 1:50 mark of the Video you will hear my dad for the first time. There is no doubt that when Garv was the owner, it was a Cubs bar. After every Cubs victory he would take a pipe wrench and bang it on the metal CO2 tanks behind the bar. In this recording, he even states that you are in Cubs Country when you're in my tavern. Then at the 8:31 mark, while Harry Caray is being interviewed, my dad buys Harry a Budweiser. It is Great stuff. Of course we all know that the Cubs Choke and lose the series 3-2. I will never forget being at Garv's watching game 5 and my dad and his friends, who were supposed to stay in San Diego for the whole series, walked into Garv's while the game was already in progress. There have been great stories on why they chose to come home early, including being kicked out of the stadium in game 4 but no one that I ever knew gave me a definite answer.
