Setombe was chosen for the transfusion as she isn't at the beck and call of other younger elephants in the herd, now that her daughter is quite grown up.
Some of her distinctive features include:
Small flap of skin on her left ear & smooth-edged right ear
Thick tusks, medium in length
Large angular head
High arching shoulders & a dip in her back
Oldest female in the herd, she was born in 1985
Quite a sensitive and nervous elephant
Daughter, Klaserie, was born in 2007
Her daughter's birth calmed her down
