Vancouver's Skytrain Metro System is a crown jewel in North America's plentiful but underwhelming rail transit networks. It presented the first automated metro system in North America in 1985, for the 1986 World Expo. Since then, the Expo Line has expanded from Waterfront in the City Center to Surrey and eventually Langley via the under-construction extension. The Canada Line runs from Waterfront to YVR & Richmond in the south of the Vancouver Area, and is the only north-south link in the western city. The Millennium Line runs from Lafarge Lake in the east, near Port Coquitlam, to VCC Clark and eventually Arbutus via the under-construction Broadway extension, which will open in 2027.
Together, the Skytrain system, Vancouver's bus network, and various ferries form a unique and efficient transit network in a beautiful city.
