Actress Tamannaah Bhatia formally took on her role as Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) brand ambassador amid criticism from sections questioning the choice of a “non-Kannadiga” face for the iconic Mysore Sandal Soap.
The Karnataka government defended the decision, calling it merit-based and driven by business considerations. Marking the start of her two-year tenure, Tamannaah unveiled 57 KSDL products, including Mysore Sandal Soap in refreshed packaging. Advertisements featuring the actor were also released.
While some political leaders and social media users criticised the move, officials maintained that Mysore Sandal’s sales extend well beyond Karnataka, making it a strategic branding decision.
