Charity thrift shops in Singapore are throwing out as much as 80% of the donations they receive, and it's not because of COVID-19, even though at least one store says donations and sales have halved since the virus hit. The Salvation Army reaches customers through its own online store and other e-commerce platforms like Carousell and Lazada. It also has in place a pre-screening and sorting process, where it assesses bulky items before taking them in, and categorises donations into what can be sold in its stores and to wholesalers.
