With no early bus out of Le Chatelard, our day began with a welcome hotel shuttle and a steep, relentless slog to Refuge du Col de Balme. The reward? Our first sweeping views into France — a stunning reminder of why we hike this trail.

But the Alps had their own plans. Just after cresting Aiguillette des Posettes, the predicted storm hit. Rain. Wind. Cold. And with nowhere else to go, we found ourselves crammed into a one-door public toilet by the roadside… laughing at the absurdity of it all while waiting for our bus to Argentière.

Day 9 tested our stamina, timing, and sense of humor — but the memories are unforgettable.
