Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak has warned that there could be an upsurge in international terrorism if the problems of the Middle East are not tackled soon.

In an exclusive interview with APTV, President Mubarak said that the Palestinian people had to see the fruits of the peace process in material improvements in their daily lives.

If international aid was not forthcoming young Palestinians would soon turn to violence in order to voice their grievances.

So many countries thought as far as they signed the peace
agreement or they signed the declaration of principles that
this was the end of the agreement. No! this is the beginning. We
have to work hard for the implementation, for raising the standard
of the people. Otherwise the people will be hopeless and they will
be turned over to the terrorist groups, and this will be a big
mistake.

If the donors did not help, which is all in all two point two
billion dollars...which is nonsense when you compare it to the
money being spent on the wars and explosions here and there. I think
my fear is that this part...the West Bank and Gaza may turn over to
be another complicated Afghanistan; and terrorism will be tougher
there and not a single country will escape that.

President Mubarak also warns against complacency towards Iraq. He personally does not trust Saddam Hussein and the recent recognition of Kuwaiti's border by the Iraqi regime.

I don't trust him because he did not tell me anything about what happened in Kuwait. He didn't tell me his intentions although we were in one organisation and he gave me a promise that he is not going to use force against (Kuwait) when there were concentrations at the border. One day before the occupation I met him. Hours. Tête-à- tête. We had long discussions and he promised me that these forces were being exchanged normally, a routine exchange, that he has no intentions of doing anything there, until we reached the conclusion that he should sit with the Kuwaitis to negotiate the problem. And the first meeting took place in Jedda and the night they finished the meeting the invasion started.
