Описание: On 27 January 1983, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak spoke to Channel 4's Trevor McDonald ahead of a trip to Washington to discuss the Reagan Peace Plan for the Middle East, and Egypt’s role as a broker, as per the Camp David Accords of 1978. At this time however, Mubarak was in the process of rapprochement with the Arab League after meeting with Saudi Arabia's King Fahd the previous summer, and PLO leader Yasser Arafat by the end of 1983, in pursuit of a sovereign Palestinian State.

Caught between ideological alliances with the League and dependence on US aid, Mubarak was softly critical of America's allegedly weak response to continued Israeli infringements of the Camp David agreement. The Egyptian president maintained that the "Palestinian problem" was the linchpin of Middle East unrest, and that greater “decisiveness” from the Americans was essential to the peace process.
