Indonesia is a diverse country, they are literally thousands of different ethnics with their rich cultures. But if you need to learn just one ethnic culture for starter, there would be Javanese because of their dominant influence. This is not to say other cultures aren't worth our attention. I am just saying learning Javanese culture is a great starting point.

Indonesian clothes/textiles by wax-resist dyeing technique. It's made either by drawing dots or lines of wax. This technique is originated from Java island. Batik is commonly worn in various ceremonies, tradition and celebrations. some even wear it daily.

"Kissing the ring" is probably the closest equivalent in Western world.

Going back to hometown or village to visit family (especially parents) or social gathering. This term is used commonly used by migrant or migrant workers during holiday season.

Indonesian popular term for Islamic official holiday Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Many people do "mudik" (see above) during this period.
