After a decade of development and a year of trials JNJ submits their Ottava system to FDA.
A vast undertaking from Johnson & Johnson Medtech to get one step closer to competing with Intuitive DaVinci 5 and Medtronic HUGO RAS. The USA will be the first market Ottava will approach once cleared and will initially be released for upper GI procedures like Bariatric and hiatal hernia. But there is soon to be a follow on as they have gained approval for the IDE clinical trial in hernia.
It's a long road for a surgical robot - and JNJ is the last of a long line off robots including many systems from China such as Edge Medical and Microport's Toumai.
