The Grease Band had been Joe Cocker's backing group before he fired them not long after a tour that followed their appearance at Woodstock in August 1969. That was the catalyst for Leon Russell to put together the band for Joe's Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour in March 1970.
Some members joined Spooky Tooth, and others worked on Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar album. Then, the Grease Band, sans Chris Stainton, signed with Leon and Denny Cordell's newly formed label Shelter Records.
From their self-titled album here is "All I Wanna Do," which was written by their guitarist Henry McCullough. Henry was recruited to join Paul McCartney's band Wings after that.
