Описание: Leon Russell met Denny Cordell after the Delaney & Bonnie album, Accept No Substitute was introduced to Joe Cocker and his tour manager, Peter Nicholls by Elton John. Russell's arrangements and piano work impressed them to the point of trekking to Los Angeles to find him. Russell was invited to some recording sessions for Joe's next album and soon became an integral part of that classic album (Joe Cocker!). Russell offered a few songs he'd written for consideration, just as Paul McCartney had done, who was quite impressed with Joe's cover of "With A Little Help From My Friends," which would soon become epic. One of those songs was "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window," one of Paul's contributions on Abbey Road.
Leon led two sessions recording it and a cover of Lloyd Price's "Lawdy Miss Clawdy," one before lunch and one after, on July 21, 1969. With him at the A&M studio were percussionist Milt Holland and drummer Paul Humphries. Milt tracked three instruments while Paul handled two. The piano on "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" is undoubtedly Leon, which he likely double tracked. Any participation by members of The Grease Band (Chris Stainton, Allen Spenner, Bruce Rowlands and Henry McCulloch) was not noted on the contract, as they were not members of Local 47 in L.A..
Released on a single, it reached Number Thirty, becoming Joe's first Top Forty appearance. The follow-up single "The Letter" reached the Top Ten, and the next, "Cry Me A River," stalled at Number Eleven. Both were from the album Joe Cocker! which Leon co-produced with his soon-to-be business partner Denny Cordell.
Less than a month after the July sessions, Joe performed at Woodstock, backed by The Grease Band, and became a household name, especially for his rendition of "With A Little Help From My Friends." About a half-year later, Joe embarked on his legendary Mad Dogs And Englishmen tour, "backed" by a more-than forty-member entourage put together by Leon.
