The Union Cabinet has approved the Kerala government’s proposal to change the name of the state from Kerala to Keralam, sources said.
The decision follows a unanimous resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly on June 24, 2024, seeking an amendment under Article 3 of the Constitution. The Assembly had earlier passed a similar resolution in August 2023, but the Ministry of Home Affairs suggested technical changes. The revised resolution was cleared before being sent for Cabinet consideration. The move comes ahead of Assembly elections expected in April–May.
