In today’s episode, I’m joined by Kim — a mother with ADHD raising two boys, while navigating multiple co-morbidities including PCOS, thyroid and hormonal imbalances, chronic inflammation and pain. Together, we explore how neurodivergence rarely exists in isolation, and how biological vulnerability, lived experience, and environmental stressors intertwine to shape health outcomes. 🧠
We talk about the side effects that often accompany neurodivergence — not as personal failures, but as systemic consequences of living in a society and environment that are largely misaligned with neurodivergent needs. When support systems, healthcare models, workplaces, and social expectations remain rigid and extractive, even the most brilliant minds can become exhausted, inflamed, and unwell. 🪫
This conversation highlights the urgent need for holistic, integrated healthcare approaches that acknowledge the complexity of co-morbidities affecting many neurodivergent people — especially when their ability to access their “genius” is constrained by limiting environments rather than lack of capability.
From a research perspective, it’s essential that we center the voices of those directly impacted. Too often, interventions are designed based on assumptions instead of lived experience. Real understanding — and real healing — starts by listening.
