This video was made with respect to all those who lost their lives in Normandy, without political agenda or support for old ideologies.
Take a walk around the largest military cemetery in Normandy, the German cemetery at La Cambe, which is the final resting place of over 21,200 soldiers, sailors, and airmen.
Located inland of the Utah and Omaha beachheads, the US Army Graves Registration Service established the site on June 10, 1944 and was originally the site of both US and German burials.
In this video we show you what the site looks like from above with exclusive drone views, plus reveal what the central tumulus covers, and take you to the graves of some of the most notorious people buried here, including Tiger tank commander Michael Wittmann and his crew, a former adjutant of Hitler, and the man responsible for the massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10, 1944.
The end of WW2 and the creation of the La Cambe site marked the start of a long period of reconciliation between nations which continues to this day. While a painful road, the gradual journey towards a shared remembrance by all nations is, perhaps, close to reaching its destination.
There are some, understandably, who cannot forget, and this site - along with the five other German cemeteries in Normandy - continue to divide opinions.
