After a pre-season trial match to kick things off ( • 2000 Wests Tigers' 1st ever 'NRL' game ) the new joint-venture teams played each other in the NRL for the first time in round 10. Who would come out on top in their first ever encounter?
The new Northern Eagles club had a great start to their existence, winning four of their first seven games but in round 8 they travelled up to Townsville and got absolutely smashed by a pretty ordinary Cowboys side 50-10. The Eagles’ season never really recovered from that point and a week later they were bumped out of the top 8 for the first time and never found their way back.
