For many young adults, the transition from childhood to adulthood can be fraught with challenges. For David Pike and his family, the effort is complicated even more by David’s autism diagnosis, and they’re not alone. According to Autism Speaks, over half of young adults who are diagnosed with autism struggle to transition to adulthood and remain unemployed or unenrolled in higher education two years after high school. To break this trend, David’s family is trying their best to equip him now with the skills he’ll need to one day lead an independent life.
