Описание:
"Lorena", written by Henry Webster (1824-1896) in 1856, published in 1857 in Chicago. It is a lament about a lost love (her real name was Ella Blocksom). "Lorena" became quite popular with both Union and Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. It is said that a Confederate officer of high rank blamed the song on the South's defeat, stating "It made soldiers both homesick and ineffective."
"Lorena" was recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford in 1961, by Johnny Cash in 1970, and by The Seldom Scene in 1986. It is also featured in Burns' Civil War Documentary.
Both the words and the tune are rather beautiful in a certain inescapably mournful way.
