Protests In Japan's Okinawa Against Alleged Sexual Assault By US Troops, Military Build-Up

Описание: More than a thousand Okinawans gathered in Ginowan on August 10 to protest against alleged sexual assault by US troops in the country. Several sexual assault cases by US servicemen stationed in Okinawa Prefecture, home to a number of US military bases, have been reported. The Okinawans are against the stationing US troops and have accused the government in Tokyo of “covering up the sexual violence by the US soldiers”. The Okinawans also oppose the Kishida government's attempt to upgrade the Japan-US military alliance and seek relaxation in military regulations. In the wake of serious Chinese threat to Taiwan, protesters are afraid the missile base in Japan will not bring peace to the country.
