The topic this month is the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation’s archaeology program and collaborative archaeological field school. The field school, carried out in partnership with the University of Massachusetts, Boston, has run since 2003. The program was recently named one of the 20 “Game Changer” programs by CT Explored for advancing the ways Connecticut history is studied, interpreted, and shared. Topics in this episode include the history of the program, personal stories about how the program has affected tribal members and university students who have participated, and the public dissemination of fieldwork results. Future plans for storage and public display of artifacts are also shared.
