A discussion about the discovery of Site 4-16 by an individual who dug a few pits and then notified the Connecticut Office of State Archaeology (OSA).
Coordinating with the town of Avon, a research team including the guests Dr. David Leslie and Stephanie Scialo, and volunteers, the damage to the site was mitigated and analyzed using geophysical survey, vibracoring for sediment samples, and limited excavation. Site 4-16, which is near the Brian D. Jones Site, has a well-preserved cultural sequence spanning 9,000 years of Indigenous occupation along the Farmington River.
