During my Junior year, my team and I programmed a 4-DOF robotic arm to autonomously detect, identify, and sort colored balls using MATLAB and image processing tools. We started by controlling basic arm motion with the Dynamixel SDK on Ubuntu, then implemented forward and inverse kinematics, trajectory planning, and Jacobian-based velocity mapping to achieve smooth and accurate movement.
In our final lab, we integrated camera mapping, filtering, and masking, enabling the robot to detect and sort colored objects within its workspace. This project was a great opportunity to combine theory with hands-on robotics experience in both control and perception.
