Ekapa Minerals in Kimberley in the Northern Cape says specialist mine rescue crews have been roped in to assist in rescue efforts at the mine.
Five mineworkers became trapped more than 800 metres underground after a mud rush in the early hours of Tuesday morning. There has been no contact with the miners.
Ekapa Minerals says the sheer amount of mud and water are hampering rescue efforts.
