The "Sarabande" from Emil Kronke's five movement 'Suite im alten Stil" written around the beginning of the 20th Century and dedicated to Herrn Kammervirtuos Philipp Wunderlich.
Kronke (1865-1938) was born in Danzig and died in Dresden aged 73, not long before the bombings.
Kronke's parents encouraged his musical talent from an early age. He was trained at the conservatories in Leipzig and Dresden. His teachers included Carl Reinecke and he belongs to what is termed the Late Romantic School (Spätromantik).
At the age of 22, Emil Kronke settled in Dresden, where he worked as a piano teacher and pianist and as a chamber music partner.
In addition to piano works, Kronke wrote orchestral works with and without piano as well as smaller works for various instruments, especially for the flute.
His music is mainly light and agile in style.
His compositions include:
'Suite in the Old Style' for flute and piano, Op 81
'Chamber Concerto in the Old Style' for flute and string orchestra, Op 112

'Deux Papillons' for 2 flutes and piano, Op 165
