Gaya, a city in Bihar, is a blend of Hindu and Buddhist history. Originally known as Gaya, the city was officially renamed Gaya Ji.
The city's name is linked to a demon named Gayasur, who was subdued by Lord Vishnu.
It is considered a sacred site for Hindus, who perform "pind daan" for their ancestors here, a ritual also associated with Sita from the Ramayana.
Bodh Gaya is where Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
The city's history is well-documented in books like the Bihar District Gazetteer: Gaya.
