The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Chevron Nigeria, organized a training session in Abuja focused on equipping journalists with the skills to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern journalism.
Speaking at the event, NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, encouraged participants to adopt AI tools and embrace fact-checking techniques as essential strategies in the fight against misinformation. She emphasized the importance of accuracy and credibility in journalism, particularly in an era overwhelmed by fake news.
Busola Ajibola, Deputy Director at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), and media professional Lemmy Ughegbe, also addressed attendees. They discussed the evolving challenges journalists face in the digital age, including the pervasive influence of social media and growing concerns around mental health in the profession.
Chevron Nigeria’s Communications Manager, Victor Anyeagbudike, noted that the training was designed to enhance journalists’ capacity in applying AI for content verification and to promote professionalism across the industry.
