00:00- INTRO* Today let’s walk the Gig Harbor Waterfront and explore this beautiful little city in Pierce County across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. So stay tuned only on the Epic Travel Adventures.

00:24 – The Maritime Pier located on Harborview Drive is a public pier as well as a small waterfront park. The Pier features load & unload float, load & unload facility for commercial vessels, a pump-out location, and a life jacket loaner station.

01:50 – Across the beautiful water harbor also known as – you guessed it – the Gig Harbor, you are looking straight onto the Goodman Dr. – another part of the city.

02:48 – Did you know that in 1905 the four Skansie brothers migrating from Croatia were the first in the area to build a gasoline-powered fishing boat all by hand? In fact the Skansie shipyard was formed that built fishing vessels from late 1910s to early 1950s.

03:28 – This Threshold Building you see here was built in 2001. This area however used to be one of the Skansie brother’s home in late 1910s which remained up for 80 years.

06:34 – In the city you have plenty of opportunities to enjoy beautiful parks, stretches of waterfront, fine dining and of course delicious coffee. The city is very cozy and safe to walk around and explore especially on a beautiful sunny day.

08:29 – As of 2021, the population of Gig Harbor exceeds 11.3 K people. In fact, since 2010, the city grew by an astounding 60% making it the 81st largest city in the state. Today it grows by 2.84% annually. Gig Harbor has an area just over 6 sq mi.

09:00 – The Skansie Brothers Park and Netshed acquired in 2002 from the Skansie family by the city as part of the Jerisich Public Dock site expansion, is located right here in the heart of downtown. Netsheds are over the water structures and docks constructed as storage sheds for fishing nets and gear used by fishermen. Throughout the year you can be a part of festivals, summer concerts, Christmas tree lighting and many other events.

09:35– By the way the Puget Sound is the second largest estuary in the US after the Chesapeake Bay. Estuary is the tidal mouth of a large river where the tide meets the stream.

11:08 – The Jerisich Public Dock was named after the early settler of Gig Harbor. This Dock provides transient moorage for boaters with a seasonal pump-out station, water and power.

In fact, it was the only city in Washington that made it to the top 10 list. The main factors included tax-friendliness, medical care, and social opportunities for seniors.
