🎶 Welcome back to The Honeybear Lounge!
Here’s my take on the classic jazz standard “Tenderly” — but instead of the usual dreamy ballad, I flipped it into an up-tempo samba. I’ve always loved Duke Ellington’s version, but I wanted to veer off the beaten path and explore what this tune sounds like with a Brazilian groove.
For this split-screen quartet session, I’m playing piano, bass, and guitar — with the driving samba drum beat from the great Edu Ribeiro (from Open Studio - @OpenStudioJazz ), whose playing provided the heartbeat of this version. Huge thanks to Edu for the inspiration! 🙏
