Interested in learning more about the reference denture technique and merging a scan of the patient's intraoral arch to the reference denture? This video is for you!
This video highlights using 2 case files: 1) a reference denture reline using the patient's existing denture, and 2) an intraoral scan of the patient's mouth with implants and scan bodies in place. The step-by-step video highlights using 3Shape Dental System software to align the intraoral edentulous scans to the reference denture scans. The key to this technique is using an existing prosthesis that has a fairly accurate OVD/CR. If those are incorrect, modify the existing prosthesis such as increasing/reducing the OVD or using a bite registration record prior to scanning the reference denture scan.
This technique permits one to align an edentulous arch scan with LOCATOR abutments in place to a reference denture. By using the reference denture and merging the edentulous scan, you can now have an articulated edentulous scan!
