I came across a suspected Treecreeper nest in one of my nest boxes which had seen better days and which had been used for several years by a pair of Pied Flycatchers. I returned a couple of weeks later thinking the parents would be feeding the nestlings and I'd get some footage of them being fed by the parents.
After filming for about 30 mins and seeing no adults I got suspicious and upon inspecting the nest box, discovered it had split open and exposed the nest. this I suspected then had resulted in the nest being deserted. The eggs were very cold.
Rather than let the nest go to waste - and I needed to replace the box anyway - I decided to rescue the nest and contents and preserve the lot for a bit longer. This is all described in the clip.
