Anti-obesity drugs, the benefits, and the future of weight management

Questions arise around the long-term effects they have on patients and the future of weight management since the market potential for these is massive.
As part of Yahoo Finance's Healthcare week, Anjalee Khemlani sat down with Dr. Angela Fitch, President of the Obesity Medicine Association, to discuss these long-term effects of these drugs and analyzed the care necessary to treat obesity with and without these medications.
Dr. Fitch responds to questions about whether or not these medications will truly be successful since patients often struggle with staying on medications: "The recent data is a little bit misleading, because we haven't been able to keep patients on medication. We've had a lot of telemedicine companies and other companies that have come forward, taking advantage of this space, of getting patients access to medication. But it's more than getting a patient access to a drug, it's about getting a patient to a doctor who can take care of them, and that's a different story than someone just texting and getting a drug via text... The more we treat obesity as a chronic disease, we are going to see more and more patients being able to tolerate these medications and stay on treatment."
