To start off, apologies for the wildly inconsistent uploading schedule. I can’t really stick to one, because I’m currently a university student, and am rarely able to upload shows sadly. However, I’m able to upload one now, and this is a GREAT one. This is Bruce and The E Street Band’s show in South Bend, Indiana on September 9th, 1978. This is one of the greatest shows on the whole Darkness Tour, which is saying a lot. Sadly, however, the last three songs of set one (presumably Racing, Thunder Road and Jungleland) are missing from this very good recording. But the rest is here, and it’s a complete blast to listen to.
The month of September 1978 is perhaps one of the finest of Bruce’s career. From downright phenomenal shows in Detroit, Saginaw, South Bend and legendary show runs in New York City, Passaic and Atlanta to excellent setlists with consistently changing parts, to just all around great vibes, this is truly an incredible month. This show just happens to be among the finest of the month! The setlist is truly sensational, with Candy’s Room in the second slot for one of the few times on the whole tour, as well as covers of It’s My Life, Double Shot Of My Baby’s Love (only time in 1978), Louie Louie, Quarter To Three and Twist And Shout. For more Bruce songs, there’s performances of For You and Sandy, both of which were becoming increasingly rare at this point of the tour. Bruce gives the people at the University of Notre Dame all he has! His vocal form and guitar playing as well as the playing of everyone else is truly excellent too.
This upload comes from a 2nd gen tape, speed corrected by me as it originally ran too fast. Enjoy this great show, and let’s hope another source containing the three missing songs comes out some day!
