I was reading the counterpoint chapter of Child composers in the old conservatories by Gjerdingen and he talks about the Seconda prattica counterpoint.
He calls it the “collocations counterpoint”, contrary to the Prima prattica counterpoint, the “species counterpoint”.
The term Seconda prattica has been controversial in musicology and history but there is no real thorough explanation about it.
Could you explain about this Richardus? Especially, could you tell more about Monterverdi’s style?
