How to Paint Some Simple Skies with Watercolour

In this video of how to paint some simple skies with watercolour I show you a few different techniques to achieve different skies wet in wet. The first sky is just a very quick simple sky using cobalt blue. The second sky uses cobalt blue again then a tissue to create some crisp edges on the tops of the clouds and then a mix of cobalt blue and light red for the bottoms of the clouds and other clouds off into the distance. I only used a size 12 pure kolinsky sable for this demonstration. They were all painted wet in wet and in the last one we added some yellow ochre and created a bit more drama. The thumbnail is my favourite painting of the four!

These were all painted on A5 Arches cold pressed, medium 185gsm paper .

The colours used were:
cobalt blue
mix of cobalt blue and light red
light red
burnt sienna
yellow ochre

The brush used was the pure kolinsky sable

The paper was attached onto the boards using 3M magic tape or you can use sellotape from woolworths in Australia.

Rives BFK etching paper. Probably best to source this from your local store so you can look after the paper and not have it posted unless you are buying a large amount of paper and it will be looked after.
