"This is the first half of what’s called Zeydl Rovner on my band Joel Rubin Ensemble's CD, Midnight Prayer.
From the CD notes: "It’s not composed by Zeydl Rovner, only part 2 of the medley (which isn’t on this video) is.
The first part is anonymous. I first learned it from Mark Slobin’s 1982 anthology, Old Jewish Folk Music. It’s the reprint and translation of Tish Nign 103 from Beregovski’s Jewish Folk Songs from 1962. The 1962/82 version lists the source as I. Shteinschneider, transcribed (or maybe recorded?) by Kiselhof in 1913, location unspecified. I thought it was also in the Nigunim volume, but can’t find it, so he might have only published it in this one place.
