I tried the COROS Running Fitness Test twice — first on a hilly route in Wales, then again on a flat running track — and both times it got my race predictions completely wrong.
The COROS Running Fitness Test asks you to input your 10K time so it knows what pace ranges to ask you to run. It starts with a 5-minute warm-up (which I replaced with my own longer warm-up), then went into:
25 minutes at 4:25–4:50/km (marathon pace)
3 minutes at 4:00–4:25/km (half marathon pace)
3 minutes at 3:35–4:00/km (5K pace)
plus an optional faster 3-minute stage if your heart rate hasn’t hit 90% of your max.
After the first test on hills, the results were terrible — it thought I was much slower than my real parkrun, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon times. So I repeated the test on flat ground in perfect conditions… and the results were almost the same.
