The BRSR framework replaced the erstwhile BRR regulations which were somewhat limited. The BRSR combines the ESG reporting regulations bring an unprecedent comprehensiveness and transparency in reporting on Sustainability and Governance. It aligns with global reporting standards such as GRI, SASB and TCFD ensuring easy comparison globally.
These regulations have brought the ESG reporting and ESG initiatives to the center stage of board agendas. All significant size companies have empowered Board Committees and the annual reports of companies highlight the ESG achievements and initiatives of the companies.
Even in areas, such as Scope 3 emissions where disclosures and reporting is voluntary, there is a large scale adoption and a majority of companies are doing this reporting.
This is a welcome change in the India business landscape, where businesses take responsibility for their impact on the broad society.
