This is the story of a tiny kitten named Shrimp. I rescued him along with two other kittens, Blue and Grits. Sadly, Blue failed to thrive and crossed the rainbow bridge just a few days later. Shrimp also struggled to eat at first, but a couple of days after Blue’s passing, he started eating and grew stronger. I like to think his brother is watching over him.

Grits was almost twice Shrimp’s size. Initially, Shrimp wanted nothing to do with Grits—except for cuddling. All Grits wanted was to play! To help Grits find a playmate, I brought home two new kittens from different shelters—Maple and Waffles.

Shrimp has not a single mean bone in his body. He avoids conflict and gets along with everyone. He reminds me of GB when he was a kitten, although GB was much naughtier than Shrimp. Shrimp is pretty perfect. Everyone who met him fell in love with his big eyes and loud purr.

Fast forward a few months. When Shrimp was ready for adoption, I reached out to one of my previous adopters. She had expressed interest in adopting another kitten and had a special goal: training both of her “Border Kitty” graduates to become therapy cats!

If you’ve watched the video, you know who her other kitty is by now. That’s right—she adopted Apollo from the Astros! One of the coolest things is that Apollo and Shrimp had already met before Apollo was adopted. Back then, GB wasn’t interested in playing with Shrimp and Grits yet, so Apollo naturally stepped into the nanny role. He was a natural! With both boys having such sweet personalities, I was confident they’d get along—even after three months apart.

Apollo’s mom flew in from the East Coast to meet Shrimp. They spent a night together, which helped Shrimp feel more comfortable with her. The integration with Apollo was very quick, almost as if they remembered each other. Shrimp also has two older siblings now, and it sounds like everyone is doing wonderfully together. Their mom told me how much joy Shrimp brings to Apollo, and she’s thrilled to have given him the perfect playmate.

シュリンプ物語 – 卒業

グリッツはシュリンプのほぼ2倍の大きさでした。最初、シュリンプはグリッツと遊ぶことを拒否し、抱き合うことだけを許していました。一方、グリッツは遊びたくて仕方がありませんでした！そこで私は、グリッツの遊び相手を探すために、2つの異なる保護施設から新たに2匹の子猫、メープルとワッフルを迎えました。

シュリンプは本当に心優しい子で、争いを避け、誰とでも仲良くします。彼はGBが子猫だった頃を思い出させますが、GBはシュリンプよりずっとやんちゃでした。シュリンプはとてもお利口で、会う人みんなが彼の大きな目と大きなゴロゴロ音に恋をしてしまいます。

数ヶ月後、シュリンプが里親募集の準備が整った頃、以前の里親さんの一人に連絡を取りました。彼女はもう1匹の子猫を迎えたいと以前から話しており、特別な目標を持っていました。それは、「ボーダー・キティ」卒業生2匹をセラピーキャットとして訓練することです！

ビデオをご覧になった方は、彼女が迎えたもう1匹の猫が誰か、もうお分かりですよね。そうです！彼女はアストロズ出身のアポロを迎えていました！驚くべきことに、アポロとシュリンプはアポロの里親が決まる前に既に会っていたのです。その当時、GBはまだシュリンプやグリッツと遊ぶ気がなく、アポロが保育士のような役割を自然と引き受けていました。彼は本当に自然体でした！2匹とも性格がとても優しいので、3ヶ月の別離を経てもきっと仲良くやっていけると確信していました。

アポロの里親さんは東海岸から飛行機でやってきて、シュリンプに会いました。一晩一緒に過ごすことで、シュリンプも彼女に少しずつ慣れることができました。アポロとの統合はとてもスムーズで、まるでお互いを覚えているかのようでした。今ではシュリンプには2匹の年上の兄弟もいますが、みんなとても仲良くやっているそうです。里親さんは、シュリンプがアポロにどれほどの喜びを与えているか教えてくれました。そして、アポロにぴったりの遊び相手を迎えられたことに大満足しています。
