Motorbike racer R. Watts (Paul Clarke?) has a nightmare where he dies while racing; elements of the dream start to come true (he is given the number 7 for the next race rather than no. 40; he sees woman who will throw scarf that causes him to crash]; he lets friend ride instead of him but fate won't be cheated and he still dies on the course.
A rather pedestrian drama that succeeds largely due to the fast pace of the editing. This may be due to the presence of Marie Partridge, who became a well-known figure in the amateur world through the 1950s and 60s, largely because of her multi-award winning film Whither Shall She Wander (1955), which was the first film directed by a woman to win a Ten Best award from Amateur Cine World. It is unclear if she was a long-term member of the High Wycombe Film Society or had just joined them for this film – at the time she was living in Amersham, about 9 miles from High Wycombe itself.
Grass Track was not as popular with the Amateur Cine World judges as previous HWFS films, gaining a 2* 16mm award in the Ten Best of 1956. (‘These Star Awards Gained Leaders’, Amateur Cine World, May 1957, p.55)
