Jambur is a village in Gir Somnath district of Indian state of Gujarat. It is located near Gir Forest National Park. It is famous for being home to African origin Siddi tribe for centuries and thus, it is also sometimes famously referred to as Mini Africa of India. The Siddi people living here, are believed to from East and Central Africa who were brought here to India as slaves by Arab, Portuguese and British centuries ago. Now, these people have become Indians and they don't remember much about their African culture and they even speak Indian languages like Hindi and Gujarati, and follow Gujarati traditions. Religion wise, people belonging to Siddi community can be Hindus, Christains or Muslims, but people living here are known as Sufi Muslims.
In this video, I visit the village of Jambur, and learn about the people of African Siddi tribe and their lifestyle. I chatted with various people there and learned a lot about them.
Lastly, I would like to thank Sameer bhai, who was kind enough to show me his village and tell me everything about their village and culture.
