During a soccer game, as a goalkeeper, there might be situations where you will need to punch the ball away outside of the goal area, in order to clear it from safety.
So let's go on with the explanation of how to punch the ball away as a goalkeeper. It's preferable to "punch" the ball away rather than "slapping" it away. Punching the ball away is more effective as the ball can go further away from the goal area. You can practice both options and see what fit's you best as a goalie.
A great drill that you can practice to learn how to punch the ball away effectively is to have a teammate throwing the ball at you in the air to practice punching the ball away.
When you want to punch the ball away, you want to put both of your hands together near your chest and extend your arms out to punch the soccer ball out of the way as it is coming towards you. You want ideally, to punch the ball as far as possible to the sides of the field so that it clears your goal area.
Also, make sure to stick out your knee to protect yourself from incoming players as you are jumping in the air.
Make sure to practice this drill regularly as it can be helpful during an important match. We hope that you enjoyed this instructional soccer tutorial.
