A chamber music composition inspired by the streets, rhythms and everyday atmosphere of Wrexham.
“Walking the Streets of Wrexham” is written for harp, clarinet, violin, viola and cello, and performed by the New Sinfonia ensemble under the direction of conductor Rob Guy.
The piece is shaped by the natural rhythm of the city itself — uneven stone pavements and urban movement give rise to an asymmetric 7/8 pulse, where walking becomes musical motion and the city’s texture informs form and flow.
Church bells from St Giles’ Church resonate throughout the score, intertwining with childlike melodic gestures and subtle classical references.
Everyday sounds and impressions are transformed into musical material, allowing place and memory to merge into an intimate narrative.
This work reflects an approach to chamber and cinematic composition in which small ensembles carry emotional depth, movement and storytelling through texture, rhythm and atmosphere rather than scale.
