Join Varadhi Binay as she delves into the ancient yet profoundly relevant concept of wisdom, offering a fresh perspective on how it can transform our lives. Drawing from her diverse experiences as a PhD in Marketing, an ordained Buddhist in the Triratna Buddhist Order, and a practitioner of the therapeutic technique Focusing, Varadhi weaves together insights from Buddhism, phenomenology, and somatic practices to explore the deeper dimensions of wisdom.
Through personal anecdotes and philosophical reflections, she introduces the profound ideas of Erich Fromm's "being versus having" modes and Gene Gendlin’s concept of "the felt sense." Discover how engaging with our embodied knowing can help us transcend intellectual understanding, foster self-awareness, and unlock personal insight.
This talk invites you to explore wisdom as more than just knowledge—wisdom as an experiential way of being. Learn how to pause, embrace uncertainty, and connect deeply with your inner world to uncover clarity, freedom, and confidence in your life. Let Varadhi’s journey inspire you to cultivate a more authentic and transformative relationship with your own experiences.
Dr. Varadhi Binay wears many hats: she’s a Lecturer in Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne, an academic author, a certified Focusing teacher, and ordained in the Triratna Buddhist tradition. She seamlessly integrates these roles to present the Somatic Focusing Centre to the world, embodying her vision of Intersecting Horizons.
Passionate about blending Eastern and Western wisdom traditions, Varadhi’s research and teaching draw from her extensive experience in somatic therapy practices and over a decade of leading retreats and offering one-on-one guidance. Her unique perspective is captured on her website with a quote from Gene Gendlin: “Every bad feeling is potential energy toward a more right way of being, if you give it space to move toward its rightness.”
By combining the concepts of negative feelings and potential energy, Varadhi offers us a fresh perspective on the importance of body-focused work. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
