Hot Cross Buns from the Bread Machine

Описание: Hot Cross Buns in a Bread Machine

¾ cup luke warm milk
4 tsps quick rise yeast
1/3 cup sugar
3 whole eggs
¼ cup of oil
3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
¾ tsp salt
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp allspice
¼ tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp nutmeg
The zest of one medium to large orange
½ cup dried fruit – I use raisins

Put all of the ingredients except the raisins into the bread machine, set the machine to the dough cycle and set a timer for 6 minutes. At the six-minute mark add the raisins and allow the machine to finish the cycle.

After the machine has finished you will hear a beep to let you know its finished. Take the dough out and form it into a log that you will cut into 12 pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Place the balls into a greased 9 X 13 pan and allow to rise 30 minutes. Because my oven is very slow to preheat I start the oven now setting it to 350 degrees.

Prepare the flour and water mixture to make the cross. You will need a half cup of flour and about a quarter cup of water. Mix together and put them into a piping bag or small sandwich bag. One the buns have risen add the crosses to the top and put them into the oven for 30 minutes.

As soon as they come out of the oven brush a simple syrup glaze over them. The glaze is made with ½ cup of sugar, 3 TBSPS water and 1 tsp vanilla.

Alternative to the glaze and cross dough you can simply mix up a small batch of icing and pipe icing crosses on the bun or do both of these things.
