"In Memoriam' is the 4th song in a 5-song cycle, 'A Swift Radiant Morning', by composer Rhian Samuel for baritone and piano. The texts are by WW1 poet Charles Sorley, who died aged 20 in the Battle of the Somme, in the first months of the war. The poems chosen are representative of his short life, from his schooldays at Marlborough College, through his 'gap year' in Germany, where he made many friends, to the battlefield. He served dutifully, but sadly, seeing his German adversaries as equals. It was commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival, Hereford, UK, 2015 and premiered by Roderick Williams and Susie Allan.
