'''Blythswood' is a cottage on the Scottish mainland opposite Skye where this set of three pieces was written in 1996. 'To become the song’ was the first of the set to be written. Its title is taken from ‘Celebration’, no 1 of The White Amaryllis by Rhian Samuel, a set of songs for voice and orchestra to texts by May Sarton, also written at Blythswood. The opening motive appears after the words: ‘So all the poem is, can give, Grows in me to become the song’. This live performance, by Francesco Peverini and Angela Zaccaria, was given at the Conservatorio N. Piccinni in Bari, Italy, in 2022.
