In this video, I’m deep-diving into the philosophy of the "Living Analog Sound Lab." We aren't just looking at records; we are looking at a specialized process that represents the pinnacle of human achievement in analog audio. From the 45 RPM speed to the UHQR (Ultra High Quality Record), I’m explaining why this is the only way I want to hear my favorite music.
The "Mastering Hall of Fame" Team:
Chad Kassem has spent decades building a "dream team" of engineers who share his obsession with the original master tapes.
Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio): A legend with over 40 years of experience, Kevin is known for his incredibly transparent cuts that make you feel like the artist is right there in the room. His work on the Blue Note reissues and his "all-tube" mastering chain is world-renowned.
Matthew Lutthans (The Mastering Lab): Working from the legendary Mastering Lab (TML), Matthew is the force behind the incredible new Jethro Tull Benefit 45 RPM. He has mastered this definitive edition from flat copies of the original U.K. and U.S. analog tapes, drawing out a level of detail never heard before.
Bernie Grundman & Ryan K. Smith: Whether it’s Bernie’s work on the Kind of Blue UHQR or Ryan’s precision at Sterling Sound, these engineers ensure that the transfer from tape to lacquer is flawless.
The UHQR & Clarity Vinyl® Difference:
No "Carbon Black": Standard records use carbon black pigment, which contains microscopic particles that can cause stylus "jitter".
Clarity Vinyl® removes these impurities, resulting in the quietest, "blackest" background possible.
The Flat Profile: Unlike standard records that have a slight "pitch," UHQRs are perfectly flat from the edge to the center. This allows your needle to stay truly perpendicular to the groove, eliminating tracking distortion.
Manual Precision: Every UHQR is hand-pressed at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) on a manual Finebilt press. Instead of a timer, these presses use temperature-sensing microprocessors to ensure every record is cured perfectly.
The 45 RPM Advantage:
By spreading an album across two LPs at 45 RPM, we give the music more "real estate" on the vinyl. This faster speed allows for wider grooves, resulting in better high-frequency detail, more energy, and a lifelike presence that 33 RPM simply can't match.
