Today on the channel, we are spinning a true masterpiece of electric blues: Little Walter’s The Best of Little Walter. This is the 33 1/3 RPM reissue from the Acoustic Sounds / Chess 75 series, and it is a night-and-day difference from any other pressing I’ve owned.
What makes this version special?
The Mastering: Cut from the original analog master tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. Even at 33 RPM, the clarity and "thump" of these 1950s sessions are incredible.
The Prodigy: We look back at how a 22-year-old Little Walter moved to Chicago and fundamentally changed the sound of the harmonica, using amplification to mimic a tenor saxophone.
The Band: You’ve got the ultimate Chess "A-Team" here—Muddy Waters playing sideman on guitar, Willie Dixon on bass, and the legendary Aces providing the rhythm.
The Packaging: This features the classic Stoughton Tip-On jacket, staying true to the original 1958 Checker release while offering that premium audiophile feel.
