Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation confirmed receiving the shipment and has requested additional diesel supplies as the country grapples with panic buying and shrinking fuel reserves. Under the existing energy cooperation framework, India supplies around 180,000 tonnes of diesel annually from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam.

The crisis comes as escalating tensions in the Middle East threaten global energy transportation routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 per cent of the world’s oil shipments pass.

Iran has also agreed to grant safe passage to Bangladeshi oil and LNG vessels through the strait, offering some relief amid rising uncertainty.

Meanwhile, maritime attacks and military escalation in the region continue to fuel fears of a wider global energy crisis, with oil markets remaining volatile and countries scrambling to secure alternative supply routes.
